Black History Report & Catholic Schools Week

logo-csw09-150[1].jpgbryant[1].jpg2[1].jpg
As most of us know February is a very important month. We celebrate Black History Month. Our Social Studies curriculum calls for learning about many different types of important African Americans.
We are asking that you have your child read a book on an African American in the sports world. We have chosen this as the topic this year because we often forget the many contributions African American athletes have made to our society.
Please pick a biography (age appropriate) and bring the biography to class by February 2nd so that Mrs. Alejandro and Ms. Cohen can approve the book. You can not use information from the internet, the students MUST read a biography.
The report must be a one to two page biography on the person, the contribution(s) they have made, and your child's opinion on the person and the book they have read.
The art portion must be a stamp commemorating the person. Have them draw a picture or pull a picture of the person off of the internet. They can create a stamp like edge by punching out half circles around the papers edge with a hole punch or a scissor. The students must write the title, author, and copyright date of the book on the stamp.
On Monday, Jan. 26 we'll have the Opening Prayer Service in the auditorium. On Monday we "Celebrate Faith". We would like a student in grade 1-102 to pray a short prayer celebrating faith. What does their faith mean to them?
As you may recall on Feb. 4, the night of the Home School Meeting, Mr. Wright from the District Attorney's office is coming to make an important presentation to the parents. A good way to get the parents to come may be to have some students in attendance. We're hoping the choir would sing and some students would be willing to share with the audience what their faith means to them. It would be good for their parents to hear their thoughts.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27 "Celebrate Students" day, we're asking the students in 4-104 to write a prayer to be read over the loudspeaker that specifically prays for students. It's also Sports Day for the students.
On Wednesday, Jan. 28 "Celebrate Learning" students in class 3-106 will compose a prayer and read it over the loudspeaker. It's also "Bee" Day. Grades 7 and 8 will be participating in a math bee. We are asking every class to have a "bee" whether it is math, spelling, etc.
On Thursday, Jan. 29 "Celebrate Alumni" day. 8-206 will write and pray the prayer for our alumni. We're hoping to have alumni and guests visit classes and talk about their careers, etc.

On Friday, Jan. 30 we "Celebrate Staff". Again a class will compose and prayer the prayer in the morning as we wind up CSW. Some of the parents are working on a luncheon for us that day.
