WONDERFUL NEWS!!!

Today Nicholas competed against 25 other 7th and 8th grade students at a Math Bee. He represented our school and made it through ten rounds!!! (That includes rounds where he had to do 8 operations in under 5 seconds!! As well as changing a fraction to a decimal-all mentally) Nicholas won and now he will go on to compete on March 10 against the winners of the Queens math Bee.


We are very proud of him and all of the hard work he did. Thank you to anyone who helped him get this far!!!

This is our second winner this year!!! We will continue to have math bees through out the year so keep practicing!

By now all students should have their speeches approved. Projects are due March 3rd for classes 8-206 and 7-205, March 5th for 7-204. All projects must have a clear representation on poster board. All classes will have a final novel exam on Thursday February 26th, 2009

7-204- Questions Roll of Thunder,Hear my Cry

7-205- Project due March 3rd, 2009-Using pictures from magazines, recreate the neighborhood of Mango Street. eg: find pictures of a little girl who represents Nenny, find a house you think Esperanza would love to live in. Be sure to recreate the neighborhood on poster board.

8-206- Project March 3rd- Using a poster board, create a collage that conveys the impressions from the novel "Night"

Welcome back....(Week of Feb. 23)

I hope everyone had a safe and healthy week off. This week is marks the beginning of Lent. We will bury the Alleluia on Tuesday and then will have a Lenten service on Wednesday.

Report cards are right around the corner....please make sure you are all up to date-take a look at the homework chart or send me an email and I can update you.
I also can let you know what your average is as of now, but will only do that if you send me an email. So please email me at Becht@sfabrooklyn.org

There is a great new puzzle out there called KenKen-look it up on google and do some for extra credit. It will be the star math this week so keep your eyes out.

Also Nicholas goes to the Brooklyn Math Bee on Tuesday!!! We are so excited for him and wish him the best!

The 7th grade has been working hard on their maps of their rooms and we will finish that project up this week.

The 8th grade will have their state test in about 2 weeks!!! There is a lot of review happening right now, so please be sure to complete homework each night and spend extra time studying.


7th grade-we will need protractors this week. Please go out and buy them if you have not already.

8th grade
Be sure you are doing the three religion journals each week. This week the topics are: Who should get student of the month? What is a sacrifice and when was the last time you sacrificed something? What are you doing for Lent?

Math hw week of 2/9

This week the classes will be doing various projects-that will count as their test grades. They will also get their vacation homework early in the week so they can get a jump start on it.

We are still in need of chaperones for the dance this Saturday-if you are available please let us know.

The 8th graders have gotten notes sent home about confirmation, as well as results of the specialized test. Please be sure to ask to see this important information.

Math hw week of 2/2 and announcements

Hello everyone!! I hope everyone took their comments from the Progress Reports seriously and are making changes to make things better.

Weds is a half day so the teachers can go and grade the ELA test. Whoever doesn't return the note will be kept in school until regular dismissal time.

Weds night there is a very important Parent meeting. We are asking everyone to attend. There will be a visitor from the DA's office and he will discuss internet safety-the info he will share will shock you!! There also will be 100 year anniversary items on sale, as well as a book sale. We look forward to seeing you there.
