Math info week of 2/25

I hope everyone had a safe and healthy vacation.
We ask that everyone keep in their prayers the fourth grader who lost his mother this vacation. It is a difficult time in his life and our prayers will help him and his father get through this.

Reminders:

• All late work is due Monday February 25.
• No late work will be accepted after this point.
• 8th grade State Math test is 2 weeks away!!
• Half a day Friday!
• Report cards are just 2 weeks away as well.
• 7th grade quiz on Wednesday
• 8th grade has their warm up graded each day (it is a state review question) and therefore will not have a test this week

SS Mid-Winter Recess Assignments

Both 7th and 8th Grade have Black History Month Essays due on 2/27/08. This assignment was given out last 2/7/08. (Total length of time to complete the project is 2 ½ weeks)
The assignment has 5 parts:
1. Notes - Research notes are to be either handwritten in their notebook or printed out. If they are printed out, students must highlight important information in the pages.
a. Keep Track of Sources; there must be 3 sources for this paper.
2. Outline - Create an outline for a 5-paragraph essay in your homework section of the SS Notebook.
3. Draft - The draft is also in the homework section of your SS Notebook. It must show the process of editing a paper. If you are typing your draft, please staple it into your notebook.
4. Timeline - 7th grade you are to have 15 entries on your timeline. 8th grade is to have 20 entries on your timeline. The timeline will be the cover for your project. Please make sure the name of the subject is on the cover. Pictures are a bonus.
5. Essay - The essay is to be 5 paragraphs. The final copy can be typed or handwritten. Neatness is very important.


7th Grade
Please complete the 24 questions of DBQ #3. This was given to you on Thursday 2/14/08. Please make sure that all questions are written out and the answers are in complete sentences. Do not write on the packet. This is due on 2/25/08

8th Grade
Please complete the School Island Assignment #9. This is an important part of your preparation for the State Exams. This is due on 2/29/08; extra credit will be given to students who complete the assignment by 2/24/08.

 Students are allowed to wear red with their uniform on Thursday in honor of St. Valentine's Day

Math announcements for the week of 2/11

Parents please check your child's homework each night. Many may say they do it, but are not handing it in. I check homework every day-and you should see my mark on it.

On a positive note many of them are doing very well!!


Happy 100 days!!! Monday is the 100th day of school!!

We are accepting used DVDs for a 19 year old boy in the hospital. If everyone could look through their DVDS and donate ones they are not watching-this is a great Lenten gift to him.

A few reminders...
1. Please bring in all candy money. Candy Sale ended on 1/22/08

2. Progress Reports were given out on Wednesday 1/30/08; please return the signed Progress Reports.

3. We are celebrating Ash Wednesday at the 8:30 mass on Feb. 6, 2008. This is the beginning of the Lenten season. Students are asked to bring in a donation for the collection during mass on Wednesday.

4. 7th and 8th grade will be beginning their Black History Month Projects this week. They need to begin their work on locating individuals we should honor this month. Further details will follow. Completed project will be due on 2/26/08.
