Social Studies HW - Week of 2/22/08

Welcome Back !!
I hope everyone had a wonderful week off. There are a lot of big happenings in the Month of March. The Fourth, Sixth and Eighth grade take the NYS Math Exam. The 7th and 8th grade begin to prepare for the Oratorical Contest. The classes will begin to prepare for the Spring Show and the International Cuisine. Ash Wednesday is on the 24th and it signifies the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time of preparation and prayer. We mark this season with prayer, almsgiving and fasting.
On Wednesday when we begin the season of Lent and we should remember to focus our attention away from ourselves and begin to look at how we, as Christians and Global Citizens, can affect the lives of those around us.

Students are reminded that the end of Trimester II is upon us. Please make sure your notebooks are in order, missing/late homework has been handed in and extra credit assignments are completed.
Black History Month Projects are due on Tuesday February 24, 2009. Students are to hand in the graphic organizer, outline, essay and a cover with the quote.

Seventh Grade HW
There will be a test on Friday - this will be based on the 3 branches, terms of office and the Bill of Rights.
Monday - Castle Learning (Due Thursday 2/25) and Vocab Words 1-10
Tuesday - Vocab Words 11-20
Wednesday - Complete the Essay that was begun in class. This essay is due on Friday.
Thursday - Complete the Essay
Friday - Create a foldable on the Vocabulary Words. (Directions were given in class)

Eighth Grade Homework
There will be a test on Thursday - this will be based on Chapter 23.
Monday - page 686 #2-5
Tuesday - page 691 # 3-5
Wednesday - Complete the essay - this is due on Friday. (If it is handed in early, extra credit is available)
Thursday -Complete the Essay
Friday - Create a 5 paragraph essay that answers the question on page 693 # 22. This is due on Monday.

Reminders 2/13/09

All students had their notebooks checked this week. It is important to have all missing or incomplete work completed during the vacation. The end of Trimester II is fast approaching; report cards will be given out March 12 and 13.

Important Reminders:
7th grade students need to return their Re-registration forms
Ash Wednesday - March 25.
8th Grade NYS Math test is in the first weeks of March
March 6 Professional Day for Teachers - School is closed.

The Black History Month Project is due on February 24, 2009.
Part 1 - Graphic Organizer (started in class 2/10)
Part 2 - Essay Outline (started in class 2/10)
Part 3- Essay (Remember to use the directions that are in your notebook)
Part 4 - Locate a quote by or about your subject. This is to be on the cover.

All 4 parts are to be attached together and handed in to Ms. Black on 2/24/09
This project is to be graded for both Social Studies and ELA.

Black History Month Project

Black History Month Project
The topics for the project are people from the fields of : Medicine, Science, Law, Civil Rights, Literature, Education and Politics.
1. Students are to research their subject. They are to complete a graphic organizer and a bibliography form.
2. Students are to find a quote by or about their subject.
3. Students are to complete the outline for a biographical essay.
4. Students are to write a biographical essay. This essay is to be 5 paragraphs.

The project is to be handed in on February 24, 2009. The graphic organizer, bibliography form and outline format will be given to the students on Monday February 9, 2009. All students will be able to begin their research by Thursday, February 5, 2009. This project will be graded for both Social Studies and ELA.
