Dear Students,
Welcome back. We will have an extremely fun and productive year. This year we will be expanding our choir to students in the 5th grade to the 8th grade. We will also be introduciing musical instrument lessons for the following instruments: Piano, bass, drums, voice, guitar, clariinet or saxaphone.
Please ensure that you have a hardcover composition book and music manuscript book. If there are any question, please ask.

Homework for grades 4 - 6
Due -- Monday November 8th for grades 4 and 5
1) 3 page paper on Beethoven
a) On one extra page, list 20 pieces of musc written by Beethoven. Ten (10) of the peices of music listed MUST be symphonies.
2) On loose leaf pape, write ten(10) styles of music that you LIKE. Put your name, grade and date. Thiswil be collected. List the styles from 1 - 10 i the manner below.

Test and Research Paper REMINDER-- Ludwig van Beethoven
Classes 4 - 6
Reminder that a research paper on Ludwig van Beethoven was due this coming monday and wed. This paper will be collected this monday which is November 1st and 3rd.
This paper should be 5 pgs. Include the beginning, middle, and end of his life. Include who he studied music with, what famous musicians did he know, what instruments did he play, what styles of music he wrote, who he worked for, what disability, if any did he have, etc.
Also, supply a list of 20 musical pieces that he composed.
1) Give me five symphonies with names.
2) 5 piano peices
a) 1 concerto; b) one sonata c) the next three
3) 5 peices for quartet
4) 5 masses if possible.

All grades should have written a short poem on what they like. Please complete working on the rythym of the poem using half notes, Quarter notes and eight notes. Classes wil perform their 2nd draft of their poem.

Grade 6
1) On loose leaf paper, with a complete heading:
a) Write five (5) styles of music that you DO like and five (5) styles of music that you DO NOT like.
b) Then, write ONE sentence for EACH style that you like stating WHY you like that style and write ONE sentence for EACH style that you do NOT like stating WHY you do not like that style.
2) Write a one page poem. The poem is to be about the region and tme period that you are curretly studying in social studies (example: If you are studying America During the American Revolution imagine what it would be like durng that time and write a poem about what that time might be like to you.)
Grade 5

1) One Hardcover notebook
2) One Manuscript Book. (This book has the music staff printed on its pages)
a) This book can e purchased at Target, Staples, Sam Ash (across from Kings Plaza) or Guitar Center (In the Atlantic Center Mall )
Grades 1 - 2 must bring:
1) One Folder -- Please list the left pocket as the classwork pocket and the right pocket as the homework pocket.
