3rd Annual WalkathonOn Friday October 28th, we will walk to Wingate Field and the classes will run laps to raise money for the school. Each student needs to bring $30.00 to participate and a tee shirt will be given. If students are bringing money dependent on the number of laps, a $10.00 registration fee is still necessary to participate.
Mrs. Roberts-Noel and Mrs. Williams have been working tirelessly in purchasing gifts, counting the money, encouraging each of the classes...all in between working and taking care of their families. This Walkathon helps meet our budgetary needs; school tuition just barely matches salaries and benefits!!!
We will announce the big winners next week. If any parents can assist on Friday, know all help will be appreciated!
This event is dependent on the weather and once again, we are fortunate because all reports call for a sunny and beautiful day on Friday.
The students will have a box lunch either before of after they return and there will be some fall activities built into the day.
Come join us for a wonderful outdoor experience!!

Pumpkin PatchAs a special activity on Friday, October 28th, our Walkathon day, Children in grades K,1,2,3,and 4 will go to a special pumpkin patch in our church garden. Each child will pick a pumpkin for a special afternoon activity. This has become a tradition at SFA and this year the pumpkins will be selected on Friday during the Walkathon Day.

In GratitudeThanks to all who made October 16th's event one to remember! There were more than 200 people who joined us for the first annual "Franciscan Festival". The liturgy was beautiful, the animals were wonderful and many pets were blessed in the garden by Father Juan. Our choir enhanced the Liturgy and the presence of so many families was heart-warming.
As we moved to the school building, the parents and students were involved in many ways. The students, guided as always by our dedicated teachers and staff, participated in a variety of ways and truly represented our school and the goals we have set. The students and teachers had worked with enthusiasm and energy to ensure that presentations, explanations of alternate forms of energy, music, dance and companionship filled the halls and yards.

The ceremony on the roof was an exciting one: the winds were blowing, the sun and clouds taking turns as the solar array was blessed and the ribbons cut. Among those in attendance with the more than 200 ,consisting of parents, teachers, students and friends, were special guests: Borough President Marty Markowitz, DEP Commissioner Emily Lloyd, Sister Patricia Lynch, CSJ, from the Leadership Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood, Mr. John Baynes from the Office of Black Ministry of the Diocese of Brooklyn, and Sister Miriam Blake from the Office of the Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Brooklyn. It will be an event we will remember for a long time.

We congratulate all who made the day a reality, especially Sister Joan Gallagher whose creativity and knowledge began the process of ensuring that SFA is truly a school of the 21st century responding to the directive of the United Nations that this decade is to be the "Decade of Sustainability".
