Albany Rally Tuesday, February 14, 2006We are in need of a few families to go Albany to meet with representatives as well as with Governor Pataki in support of Education Tax Credits. These tax credits are for families whose children are in elementary and high school, whether public or non-public schools. The bus in our area, which is being paid for by the Catholic schools will leave St. Therese parish at 8:00am and return there by 5:30pm. If you can give time to this worthy cause, please contact S. Theresa by Friday, Feb. 3. THANK YOU. We will drive you to the bus at 7:40am.

Celebrate Catholic SchoolsOn Sunday, January 29, 2006, we began our school celebration for 2006 at a special parish liturgy with Father Juan, our pastor. We appreciate all who participated in the service. It was a wonderful prayerful experience for families, alumni and teachers who attended. The article in this week's Tablet about SFA school really captured our spirit. We hope you had an opportunity to read the story.
The photo above shows Mrs. R and some of those attending. Look below for other photos.

The Tablet Visits SFALast week, a writer from The Tablet, the Catholic newspaper for Brooklyn and Queens, visited our school to prepare an article for this week's edition of the paper. The newspaper is available in Catholic parishes every Sunday.
We have seen this week's issue and are very excited about the story on our school. The photos and words capture our spirit. Try to get a copy for yourself. It is also available on the website for the newspaper. See the article at http://www.dioceseofbrooklyn.org/tablet/01282006/stories5.html. You will see the article along with photos that appear in the issue as well as some extra photos taken by Marie Elena Giossi, the Tablet reporter. We appreciate her work and the work of The Tablet.

January Newsletter--Rally in Albany on Tues. Feb. 14th.We will be sending a newsletter home this week with many important notices, reminders and requests. Please read carefully and respond where appropriate.
One very important event is a rally in Albany, NY on Tuesday, February 14th. Bishop DiMarzio, who is supportive of Catholic Schools has requested that each school notify their families about the rally in support of tax credits. State legislators will meet with the parents, students and parishoners at 11:00am and at 12:30pm, Governor Pataki will speak to everyone. The Bishop is urging us to work together to demonstrate to the legislators in Albany our genuine commitment to securing the passage of Education Credit legislation. This is the first time in decades that relief for the cost of education for all families is a real possibility.
Last year over 80,000 postcards were sent to Albany by the parents of children in our schools. This trip is the next step in exerting pressure on our local leaders. Please consider joining us. Contact Mrs. Tai if you are able to make the sacrifice to take the bus to Albany. The bus will leave from St. Therese parish at 7:15am. The return time is about 5:30pm. Thank you.

Dear Parents,
To learn even more about our school, go to the Middle States website. We are listed with all the schools that are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, specifically the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. When we completed our six year report, we were able to submit the report in the form of DOAS (Description of an Accredited School). As a result we are on the Middle States website.
To see this description, go to: http://ces-msa.org
Then go to DOAS, then go to school code, then type in 518NY. This will bring you to our school.
Enjoy the visit to our school!

Happy New Year!May 2006 hold great hope and peace for all of us! We hope that everyone had a blessed Christmas and are still enjoying the peace of this season. The children will be attending the 8:30 Parish Liturgy on Friday, Jan. 6, the traditional day of Three Kings. We will remember all our families and friends as we pray together as a parish and school community. Please join us if you are able.
On Wednesday night, more than 30 people attended the HSA meeting which was scheduled for the discussion of the educational planning happening in the diocese and at SFA. Part of the input is a parent survey. This survey, which was reviewed at the meeting, will be sent home with the oldest child on Monday, January 9. It includes a last page for volunteering to assist with the task of collating results. The survey is anonymous and the last page information will be collected before the survey is read.
Thanks for your assistance with this endeavor.
