School Ends With Special Blessings For S. Joan Gallagher

ffspecialguests (2).jpgThe school year ended with our annual "Step -Up" day, and closing prayer service. On Tuesday, June 20,2006 all the classes stepped into their next grade and learned about the special and exciting learning experiences awaiting them in September. Each student received a summer reading list and/or assignments, a list of needed supplies for September and information about the opening days of school. We hope to have this information posted on the student pages in the next few weeks.

On Thursday, June 22nd, we prayed for each other, asking God's blessing on each and everyone that this be a summer filled with joy and hope and relaxing days. At the end of the prayer, we honored Sister Joan Gallagher for her 18 years of service at SFA. The school staff and students had some clues that would assist her in discovering the gift we had for her. Each clue was presented by a student who had known Sister Joan since their Kindergarten days at SFA.

The gift is money toward a long planned trip to Assisi, Italy. Sister Joan has been thinking about this for many years and we hope this gift will make her dream a reality. The thank-you included a song by the younger students, "That's What Friends are For", with all joining in. Sister Joan regained her composure and spoke lovingly to all the children. The prayer service ended with "This Little Light of Mine" and everyone went out to the yard and had an opportunity to say goodbye to each other and to Sister Joan.

Sister Joan will be taking on an administrative position at St. Joseph's HS in downtown Brooklyn and has promised to remain a part of SFA. We will miss her.
Have a blessed summer everyone!

June Calendar and Final Weeks of School

Please make sure your child brought the June calendar home to you because there are additional early dismissal days as we begin to end the school year. The 8th graders were given their own special calendar today with many important events listed as they move toward graduation on the 16th of June.
