School Beginnings

Thank you for keeping in touch through our website. Hopefully, the children have their specific information for the supply list and class assignments. If your child doesn't have the information, look at last year's class or grade. One of the teachers has it on the class page. Most supply lists are similar and some supplies will not be needed on the first day!! There are excellent sales during these weeks and so each child should be well prepared.
One item omitted from the supply list is the stretchable book covers for their NYS texts. Please purchase these to protect the text which is "on loan" from NY State and to help identify the book. The children in grades 3-8 have at least 3 texts that need to be covered. Quite a few stores advertised the covers for $1.00 each and some even sold them at 2 for $1.00. They are washable and can be re-used.

Happy Shopping!!

August Reminders for the Opening of School

Today is the feast day of Mary, Mother of God and you were remembered at Mass and prayer this morning. Hopefully these past six weeks have been good ones for all of our children and families.

These summer days have been very beautiful here in Brooklyn. Have you had some time to enjoy the many beautiful places in our city? With all that is going on in the Middle East and other places in our war torn world, it is important to have hope and trust that God is with us at this time. We must pray for peace and non-violent solutions to the many issues of greed, revenge, poverty, human rights violations and so on...

The school office was open during the month of July and some other days in August for clerical business. Regular hours will begin on Monday, Aug. 28th. Don't forget that SMART tuition is paid directly to SMART and payment #3 is due next week. Those of you choosing the 1 or 2 payment plan should have paid school by July 25....late fees are added weekly.

We had a serious flood this week when a main pipe in the boiler room burst leaving more than 5 feet of water!!!! We are in the process of repairing the pipe, cleaning the boiler room and repacing the burner. Electricity lines were also affected and so..... Hopefully most of the repair will be covered by insurance.

Registration has gone very well this year and we have 401 children registered at this time with a waiting list in most grades. Hopefully, you are not waiting until the last minute to take care of registration and fees!!! It is critical that all of this is done before August 31st so that we have a smooth start to the new academic year.

Students who attended summer school at other places need to send their information to us before Aug. 31st. Please come to the office with your summer school report.

Please make sure your uniform is in good order and shop at Ideal Dept. Store early before the late August crowds!!!
All SFA uniforms are purchased at Ideal. Boys trousers must be purchased there and are to fit them properly using a belt at the waist.

As noted in June, we begin school as follows:
The school schedule for Grades 1-8 is Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Sept. 6, 7,and 8 from 8:00am-10:30am
The Kindergarten schedule begins on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 7 and 8 from 9:00am-10:30am

The afternoon is set aside for working meetings with the teachers and that is why it is necessary to have the shortened days.
The first full day for all is on Mon. Sept. 11 from 8:00am-2:20pm

As usual, the class teachers will give each student a packet with forms that are to be returned to the teacher as soon as possible, but before Wed. Sept. 13, 2006. These include lunch forms, emergency cards, committment forms, dismissal forms for Grades K-4 and a lunch fee of $10.00 per family for those eating school lunch. This helps to defray our expenses for providing the lunch program.

We look forward to seeing you in September!!!
