CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK EVENTSOur celebration of CSW began on Sunday at the 12:30pm Liturgy when Father Juan welcomed our families and the many, many children who participated in the entrance procession and then as readers, singers and dancers. It was a beautiful Eucharistic celebration.
The other events of the week brought many smiles and lots of learning and honoring the many people who are the heart of SFA School. Thanks to the many parents, grandparents and friends who helped to celebrate with us.

WE APPRECIATE OUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT
Students in our AfterSchool program wrote letters of gratitude and support to our local firefighters at Engine 249, Ladder 113. As you know, Lieutenant Martinson lost his life in a recent fire. The letters expressed our sympathy and our appreciation for all their efforts to keep our school and our neighborhood safe.

TUITION CONCERNSIn June, some of the families requested a two payment plan to SFA. The second half of the tuition is due Jan. 29th. Please take care of this in the next two weeks.
Most families are on a monthly plan paid to SMART. Because SMART merged with another company, there were many problems during the summer months and in September. There are still some issues that Sister Marie has been discussing with the company representatives. If you have any concerns, please contact Sister Marie as soon as possible. Call her at 718-778-3700 ext. 104 or email her at lenihan@sfabrooklyn.org.
REMEMBER: ALL TUITION MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY MARCH 15, 2008. We will begin registration for the school year 2008-2009, (the 100th year of SFA!!) in late February.

SWEETNESS FILLS THE AIR!
At this point, every family should have received one box of World's Finest or Hershey's Chocolate. The cost is $1.00 per bar or $50.00 for the box. Remember, Father Juan invites you to sell the candy after Mass in the back of the Church. Most likely, the other parishes would be as accommodating. Remember, we have two mandatory fund raisers: Walkathon and Candy Sale. We hope some families can sell extra boxes; contact S. Marie by phone or letter to request another box. Thank you for your continued support.

Happy New Year
We wish everyone health and happiness in 2008. Here are a few points of information to assist with a successful new year. Please continue your support and assistance in the education of your children. We sent the January calendars home in December. Hopefully you received the calendar which contains very important dates. This week we will be sending one box of candy with the oldest in each family. This is the second mandatory fundraiser; the first was the annual Walkathon.
Next week begins the NYS assessments in ELA for grade 4. As you know, the teachers have been preparing the children since September for this event. Project T.I.E. is one way that all teachers have been preparing them since Kindergarten!!! Parents need to make sure that all children read or are read to for a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Encourage reading every day.
To further assist parents, we are having the director of Technology for the Catholic Schools in Brooklyn and Queens as a guest speaker for our monthly Home School Association meeting. Please brave the cold weather on Wed. Jan. 9 and welcome Brother William Clifford as he assists us in a better understanding of the impact of the Internet on our lives.
