CELEBRATING CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Catholic Schools Week celebrates who we are as a school community. Please view the album of photos of the various activities. Our opening prayer service engaged students in sharing their faith; each day a class reads a prayer composed by the class using the public address system. Tuesday was Sports Day and Wednesday was "BEE DAY", photos of the different events are shown below. On Thursday, we welcomed alumni, visitors and family who shared their life stories with each class. Our last day celebrated our staff. We thank the families who contributed their food specialities at the appreciation luncheon. Thanks to all for a wonderful week!!

Pres Obama.jpg

Using our up-to-date technology, all students and staff will witness history on Tuesday when Barack Obama swears in as the 44th President of the United States of America. We have projectors available with wireless internet and we have cable TV as well. If traffic in the internet prevents a class from viewing, we have backup with the LCD projector hooked to the cable service. If any parents would like to join us, please come to school by 11:15am.

Peanut Butter Issue in the Midwest

News reports tell of over 400 people who were sickened by certain peanut butter. Today, upon hearing of this news, we contacted Prospect Heights Campus, our provider and were told that the peanut butter used is "Sunny Boy" Creamy Peanut Butter, not one of the companies cited.

Press Release

To: Parents and Guardians:

Since September, we have been informing you that all the Catholic Schools were involved in a viability study: "Preserving the Vision". Today, a press release indicated that 29 proposals were sent to the 113 schools.

Our proposal states that Saint Francis of Assisi will continue as we are until 2011, when a review will be done. Our enrollment is good, though we have some space in a few grades, our finances are stable and our building is in excellent condition.

The press release indicates that 11 schools will most likely close and 9 others will merge.
Besides the information in the newspapers, if you go to www.dioceseofbrooklyn.org and scroll down on the left to the link LATEST NEWS, the press release from Rev. Kieran Harrington is posted. For more detailed information, go to the dedicated website concerning this issue: www.csptv.org.

We will keep you informed as the process continues. We begin registration of new students in late February and re-registration of our present students in early March. Please tell your friends and relatives about registration and direct them to our great website for a glimpse of our wonderful school community!

Happy Epiphany and New Year to All!

3 Kings.jpg This Sunday we celebrated the Feast of Three Kings which is a special second Christmas. May the spirit of these wise ones inspire us to seek Jesus in all that we do. January calendars were given to the students before vacation and as always, the calendar is available on our website. We welcome back Mrs. Clarke who is returning after the birth of her daughter. She will teach grade 4 in Mrs. Leach's place. We also welcome back Ms. Moreland who has relocated to Brooklyn and will be teaching Science in grades 7 and 8. We are blessed in many ways. In just two weeks, we will witness history as President-Elect Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. We hope to work on out technology so that many of the students will be able to witness the event.Pres Obama.jpg
