Reaching Out to Others

Each month, the students will assist with an "Outreach" to help others. In October, the classes contributed to the purchase of desks for children in Haiti through "Food for the Poor"'s Save Me a Seat Campaign. In less than a week, the students contributed more than $380.00. Money was added to that total and we sent $520.00 for the purchase of 52 desks. Thanks to all. I am certain that this contribution will be tremendous help for the education of young people in Haiti

In November, the project was to collect paper goods to be brought to Providence House aand to St. Vincent dePaul Society to assist local people in need. While people may have food stamps, the cost of necessary paper products is still very costly. We received a very generous amount from many of the classes. A check for $100.00 was sent to assist the parish families in need. Thanks again to those who remembered to assist the school in caring for others.

For December, we will support the work of S. Teresa Fitzgerald and her organization, HOUR CHILDREN by bringing in needed items. The teachers will be sending information to you through the class webpage. Some of you may wish to join with the 71st Precinct in collecting "gently used" winter coats and jackets. A date will be chosen and some school students will sort the coats and, with a teacher, bring them to the precinct the following day. More information will be sent to you.

Our 7th Annual Walkathon Is a Great Success!!

Friday, November 6, 2009 was a great day for all as we walked to nearby Wingate Park and began our 7th annual Walkathon. The morning was somewhat chilly, but the warmth of the sun and the energy of sprinting around the track brought heat to our bodies! The school total is more than $16,055 and we expect a little more this week. Thanks to all who went beyond the required amount!

The class with the highest amount of donations to their healthy walk is K-101 whose total so far is $2000.00. Mrs. Amoroso and Ms. Gina are very proud of the class. Kayin's contribution of $800.00 helped make his class a winner as well as all those in the Kindergarten who were able to ask relatives and friends to sponsor them!! Thanks to all our families for their support to this first fund raising event.

SFA Celebrates the Saints and Honors Students of the Month

We began the month of November by honoring the Students of the Month who showed the vaule of compassion in their attitude and behavior. Pictured below are sisters Markisse and Annie who received the honor. We congratulate all of the students of the month for October.

Our prayer service on Nov. 2 celebrated and remembered the lives of some special saints as shown by some of our third graders who arre preparing for First Communion. We also remembered those in our families and our friends who now live in the "Arms of God" as representatives brought the scroll of names from each class.
